Upright Gearbox Identification

Forums

I have recently come across an old Norton gearbox. The number and letters read as:

Gearbox casing N8002 with and E stamped above and on the gearbox cover G5 A 49.

Does anyone have an idea what year and model this gearbox was for?.

Cheers

Alan

Hi Julian,

Your gearbox is a 4 speed standard ratio S.Archer from circa 1932/3 and looks like it probably had the S/A 6 spring clutch and would need the engine shaft shock absorber. This 'box would have been fitted to an ES2 or CS1.

Alan,

Do you have any photos of your gearbox ?

Thanks for that info, Richard. Next task is to sort through the assortment of spare gears that accompanied it to see what I have.

If the singles gear identification page doesn't provide answers I shall be back !

Have you still got this gearbox Julian? Would you sell it? Or has anyone else got one for sale?
