I think the battery of my '64 Jubilee has died as it is not holding charge when off the bike and with nothing connected to it.
I am disappointed as the battery is less than 13 months old and has had virtually no use as I have been re-building the bike. The Jubilee has a 6V Pazon ignition that works well but will not start the bike with less than 6V. The battery drops to 4.5 V after a few hours. All the electrics are new and I have a new regulator rectifier, harness, lights etc. The alternator is original but still charges well.
My request is this, can anyone recommend a 6V battery that will fit in the small battery box that is NOT a JMT Gel Battery 6N6-3B-1? I would prefer a sealed battery so that acid does not get on the new chrome and paintwork.
It looks like the UK supplier is no longer selling that specific battery, I wonder why :-(
It is however still sold in Germany and Italy.

I take a fuse out when I park up my bike to be safe and use a motobatt battery, they are acid gel and last well without a trickle charger. Not sure they do 6v one though
Good advice Dan. I have in fact located a Motobatt 6V AGM battery and ordered it. They now come with flying leads and bullet connectors not lead posts. Not a major problem but some modification required. I think the bullet connectors are popular on 6V batteries so they can be used for children's' electric vehicles and skidoos etc.
I have had Motobatt batteries on other bikes and they have been reliable.
The Motobatt battery arrived yesterday and was fully charged. Fitting was easier than I thought as wired bullet connectors with ring connectors were included and an in-line fuse (didn't use that as I already have one). I attached the ring connectors to the existing wiring harness connectors using short bolts and covered bare connections with heat shrink. Did a test ride and the charging is fine (I have an electronic ammeter and voltmeter on the handle bar mount).
Only problem now is a duff gearbox (noted in another topic post).
It says here 'I have an electronic Ammeter and Voltmeter on the handle bar mount' I can understand the voltmeter (modern Chinese electrics or even an AO Services BSM) but can I question the ammeter? The technology to measure the amps and give a remote readout would be quite high OR running the Battery and supply cables up to and away from the Handlebar would seem fraught with trouble and strife. Can I ask that this point is confirmed/explained please?
i fitted a small electronic voltmeter/ ammeter because the non-standard headlight shell does not have a hole for an ammeter and I wanted a to check the battery voltage and see if the charge circuit is working. I have an on/off switch on the unit and I do not leave it on all the time. i have had no problems with the set up so far and I have an in-line fuse at the battery. I have a new harness and voltage regulator/rectifier. I covered the wires to the ammeter with extra cable covering and spiral wrap to prevent damage. I only had to go from the switch in the headlamp to the handlebar bracket so quite short wires. I note your concerns about the potential dangers.
By the way, the old battery was faulty, losing charge rapidly even when disconnected. The new Motobatt one seems fine so far.
