Felt seal

I do not have either of these items on my Dominator bikes. This looks like a home made bodge which probably could be replicated using silicone and and a piece of rubber or foam.

The original Britax gasket kits used to contain a rubber seal that went inside the primary outer. Check out the attachment. The primary chaincase spares are on the right. From the top right down you have the inspection cap rubber gasket, then the the footrest spacer and chaincase rubber washers. Please do not ask me what the cork disc does. I have no idea. Missing from the collection, because I have used them, are the head, barrel, timing cover and crankcase gaskets. Also the sump plug copper washer.

The Britax sets were very good. All the individual components were made of the correct material and also were exactly the right thickness.

Interesting that the Britax set has a rubber inspection cover seal. I an sure the original was felt (as still lurks in my Dominator chaincase). Felt for making your own seals isreadily available at any woolcraft shop. My supply was filched from RAF boxes of bird scaring cartridges. Great for scaring the life out of innocents driving round taxiways.

That felt seal in your photo (the white one) was definitely available when I rebuilt my dommi about five years ago. I'm sure I would have got it from Mick Hemmings. But then, you already have it...

yes if you cannot get one then make one out of a bit of Capet using wad cutters special round puches with a hole down the center for cutting gaskets ie you find them on ebay tools yours anna j

I'm sure the orriginal fitment was a felt as you have. As was the inspection cap seal. I cheat and use an O ring.

Wot?? No-one has seena felt seal before? The flared cone-shape is specially so you can stuff the thick felt seal into it and make a tight fit against the footrest gubbins.I always grease it well. Don't complain abouta leaky primary case if you haven't used one of these! Norvil have them as P/N012443- 39p -but I would expect all Norton dealers to have them. They may not be the original part but work well.

I would totally agree with everyone voting for a greased felt ring/washer. They appear to be used all over the rest of my bike. eg behind the clutch, next to the wheel bearings, etc. Do you perhaps have both the felt and the rubber washer on that chaincase spacer?

Any sensible suggestions for the corky disc/disk in the photo? It is nearly 5mm thick but not wide enough for a fuel or oil cap.

Thank you for that part number, as i have had one of those felt seals newin a packet for years with that part number on it and i did not know what i ordered it for, so now i know.

No Lubos - the cone/funnel shape is on the inner chaincase where the footrest shaft goes through.

I'll try to attach the spares list picture showing the cone shaped on the inner primary chaincase. I found it easier to make a .doc file with it on - plus a red arrow to show the cone/funnel for the fotrest shaft felt seal.

I expect you've figured it out by now anyway!

Norton Bits have them for sale on Ebay. Check their website as well. GBP 2.89 each I think.
