This is a photo of 2 hubs I have for my early Atlas project. The right one is mid fifties Dominator and it fits my 7 inch forks. The left one is later Atlas and does not fit. There must be a third variety that looks like the one on the left but fits the 7 inch forks. Is there a modification that makes it fit? Narrower bearing spacer tube perhaps?

The early Atlas and 650 came with 7 inch yokes. I have the 7 inch forks which are correct for the 1963 Atlas. Both these hubs are wrong for those models. Here is a photo of a Dommie with 7 inch yokes and the later style hub (but not the one I have). I think they changed in 1956. What was the hub they used between 1956 and the 7-3/8 change-over (1964)?

I have this from the book of Roy Bacon.
"The 88 and 99 had a change for 1957, the iron drum being cast into the alloy instead of the bolted constuction . This hub continued for all the big twins except the P11 and the Commando".

This means that this Atlas hub should fit all forks but it is almost 1/16" too wide to squeeze in there. The only explanation is that I rebuilt the hub incorrectly when I renewed the bearings. I will do it all over again.

It does indeed point to the rebuild. My 99 (7" forks) has on occasion sported an early hub, a late Atlas hub, an early Commando hub and currently, a correct for its year, 99 hub.

It is possible that Johno has the later fork boots but earlier 7" yokes. This combination will not allow any of the hubs to fit correctly.
Checkout the attachment for the earlier pre-1964 boot. Note the deep slot into the boot itself. This is not there on the later boots for the 7 & 3/8" yokes. The later boots also have an extra 3/16" of metal on the inner axle shoulders.
All 1957 on front hubs will fit into 7" or 7 & 3/8" yokes if the boots are correct. But narrow yokes plus thicker boots equals no way.

Well, there's a story there too. I rebuilt the forks using all the best bits I had lying around. I didn't know there were different boots (other than disc brake and flattened ones). Now I have to compare all my boots for thickness at the axle boss.

What yokes have you got fitted? There are 7 inch centres and 7 3/8 inch centres. I susupect that the Atlas needs the latter to provide enough width for that brake and it's full width hub.
