Hi Ross, I realise that your post was a long while ago, but in case you're interested, I've attached a picture of the tank transfer from a totally unmolested 1954 Domi 88 which belongs to me.

Saw your picture.
Is the original paint silver grey? Is it all over the tank?
Is your tank sitting on single down tube prefeatherbed frame or a wideline frame?
Thanks for the info.

Hi Ross,
Thanks for the input! I'm pretty sure that Norton used whatever was available at the time. It's just us latter-day rivet-counters that try to label everything!
Happy riding.

Hi Rene,
The attachment will show the original colour of the tank which is the centre stripe. This was covered by the tank strap and wasn't faded by the hot South African sun.
The primary chaincase inside etc is the same original colour - as are all the bits which were shielded from direct sunlight.
The tank is chromed with grey panels - I can post more pictures if required?
The frame is a standard wideline featherbed frame.

Rene - here is a better picture of the tank showing the pattern of the panels.
Once again, the original colour stripe down the centre which was under the tank strap.
