Has anyone fitted Molnar barrels to 650ss or Atlas?
I'm having trouble accessing nuts on two rear, 3/8ths studs -barrel to crankcase.
Thanks,
Dave

David hello, you may need to…
David hello, you may need to fit reduced hex 3/8 inch BSCycle nuts (26tpi). They may need a reduced diameter thick 3/8 inch washer as well. Unlike the original nuts, fitted by the factory, the reduced hex nuts can dig into the alloy face around the holes - hence the washer. good luck, howard

Thanks Howard, that's just…
Thanks Howard, that's just what I'd suggested in an email to Andy Molnar because I had a nut bolt and washer that I bought from him ages ago and the nut and washer looked just right. Think he's washed his hands of me... I wanted washers for the three nuts that tighten from below - he supplied small sleeve nuts and said that there was no room for washers. I particularly wanted washers here because there is a defect in the machined surface, where the cutter has run a v in the fin and left a ridge where the nut tightens to. I would have asked for a refund but didn't see it until after I'd drilled and tapped for the grub screws for Jim Schmidt tappet holders. I've had the barrel two years now but it went back in its box while I saved up for pistons, cams etc.
I've sourced some smaller hex nuts from the ever helpful Will Horgan of Stainless Classics but he didn't have small diameter washers.
With the standard size nuts, there is no room to get anything but a severely weakened open-ended spanner... the nuts are so close to the barrel, I can't even get a fag paper between.
Anyhow, thanks a lot and safe riding.

Ask Molnar direct as they must be aware of any "snags" as to fitting their product and give you the definitive answer.
