clutch basket

Forums

Hello new to this forum looking for a bit off information regarding clutch basket hitting back off casing when tightened up is there a spacer between basket and oil seal on shaft

Hello Ian,

65 years on, not many lightweights are as they left the factory.

From your photos I believe you probably have a '59 or '60 Jubilee.

I can see a primary chaincase inner from a later model lightweight.

I suspect you have a gearbox mainshaft from the early Jubilee and a clutch centre to match.

The early clutch centre has a hardened spacer that fits a recess in the inner side of early centre. It is a close fit over the mainshaft. When the clutch retaining nut is tightened the spacer is hard up against a shallow shoulder on the mainshaft.

You are probably missing the hardened spacer.

A lot of this is to be confirmed by yourself. It helps a lot on these forum questions if you can confirm lightweight year, model, and any suspicions of replacement engine of a different age or model. There were a myriad of design changes.

Early Jubilee?

Ian,

Use the search box on the website home page, top right.

Type in "navigator mainshaft" and read about the different mainshaft sizes and clutch centres in lightweights. Then tell us what you have.

This search facility is fairly good.
