ES2 Head differences

Forums

Hello,

I've got an iron head from an 1948 ES2 wich need some attention and a 1955 (i think) barrel from an ES2. My plan is to reassemble a whole engine, but my question is, can i put an iron head onto a cylinder designed for an alloy head ?

Test it on the bench, but the head sits on the fin before so the spigot not the same height i think.

If no match possible, looking for a 1948 to 1954 barrel.

Thanks in advance for your answer

Hi Steven,

The main difference between cast iron heads and the 1955 type is the spigot. On the earlier type this is 3/8th inch whereas the later type is 1/4 inch. If the parts were the other way around you could do it, but your best bet is to get the correct barrel for your head. This shouldn't be too difficult as there was more than 15,000 of these barrels made. Auto-jumbles are your best chance if you are in the U.K.
