Click sound from roadholder forks

Forums

Has anybody noticed a click sound coming from roadholder forks when under compression.
It is not unduly harsh or loud but definitely there every time you compress the forks, and it seems to emanate from the middle somewhere.
I have been over and over them. The internals are bog standard, and all tightened up. They have new stanchions, bushes and seals. The head bearings are adjusted correctly and proper fork oil to the right capacity and the yolks are tightened up. The forks fully extend when on the stand for example and their recoil to full extension is fine, no noise. There is no external cause, like a cable slapping, I've even removed the headlamp to see if it was in there. It's just when you initially compress they click, and it's definitely coming from the fork legs.
Can any body shed any light on this.

Does it happen on reversal at any point, not just at the top of the stroke? I'm thinking new seals "reversing" when tight to the stanchions??

Clicks need thorough investigation, could be anything from a loose component to a cracked handlebar!

Is it on both legs? It could be a spring hitting the inside of the stanchion as it compresses ? Or more likely is it actually the front wheel, if you are compressing the forks with the front brake on,because the brake plate will grab and turn taking up any play and tap the stop in the fork slider. Try putting piece of packing in there (temporarily if necessary) and see if that stops it?

If you are correct in the location of the sound then it's in the area of the slider top bushes. Instead of compressing the forks grab a handful of front brake and push the bike back sand forth. If there's any knock it's probably the bushes. Easy enough job to replace during winter project.
