Correct Lucas Magdyno Points Plate

Forums

Looking for information on the correct points plate for a Lucas MO1/Magdyno.  I cannot get the correct points gap / timing.  The Magdyno was recently rebuilt from spares and I am not sure it has the correct points plate.  Looking for help.

Thanks.

Turns out my magdyno problems start with too much end float of the rotor.  Steve Marks of Themagnetoguys.com has been a great help.  Also Skip Brolund has been equally helpful too.  Thanks to Steve and Skip.  Turns out the allowable end float is nil to 0.002”.  The end float on my magneto was 0.028”.  Fortunately, the magneto was still under warranty.  Now I have to pull the magdyno.

I can confirm that the magneto is being driven in a COUNTERCLOCKWISE direction (as seen from the driven end).  The points plate is rotating in a CLOCKWISE direction.  The ‘R’ points plate in my magdyno is meant for COUNTERCLOCKWISE plate rotation.  So I have the wrong points plate and the correct points plate is an ‘L’ points plate.  Of which I dont have.

Does anyone have an ‘L’ points plate for sale?

Or does anyone know where I can get an ‘L’ points plate.

I do have a spare points plate, but it is not marked.  Does anyone have a picture of an ‘L’ points plate?

So, in addition to the excessive end float, I have the wrong points plate.

To quote the Grateful Dead - “What a long strange trip its been.”
