New member and deposit paid!

Well hello everyone,

I have put a deposit down on a new manx colour 961 cafe racer and cant wait to get her, i have been told it will be made next april but not sure what year! that was a joke by the way.

I have ridden motorbikes since i was 12 and had japanese 2 strokes until i was 26 when i first saw a Ducati 916 and had to have one, i have still got it after 14 years. Then i started racing on a 748R then a gsxr1000.

I then brought a multisrada and rode to italy to see the new 1098 and brought a 1098R in 08, started racing in the Desmodue championship in 09 and won the class b championship last year on my 583 ss.

Having not raced this year and only riding on the rode i felt that i needed a replacement for my 1098r and started to look at every bike on the market and thats when i saw a new Norton in mcn, the panther! what a stunning bike and made in this green isle of ours, how fantastic is that.

I spoke to heydin and arranged for myself to drive from oxford to donington and ride the new 961 fresh from the tt, i cant remember having such fun on a bike since riding my 53 bhp desmodue race bike!

I really hope and believe norton will be a great company and that Stuart Garner is no fool, i feel very excited to be a part of the new norton and would like to be able to buy a race replica rotary one day.

I hope i havent upset some people already and look forward to meeting some of you for a chat at some meet ups and shows soon.

Many thanks

Mathew

ps im only 40, am i to young? thats another joke!

If, as the chairman of the NOC now claims, "The Technical Forum for 961s should be just that. 961 owners are entitled to be able to go to a technical forum and discuss innovations, problems and upgrades without having to wade through a barrage of criticism which will potentially undermine their confidence in the bike and the Company which has to provide servicing and spares.", I wonder how the above post got into it.

There is no technical point raised and no innovations, problems (!) and upgrades discussed in it.

Hello joe,May i just take this opportunity to thank you for the warm welcome that you have given me.I must say that i cant believe the negative outlook that this site portrays! i was hoping that within this Norton owners club i would find like minded people that enjoyed a bit of banter about all things Norton but i was wrong! i have had 2 posts either removed or heavily edited for no reason, i have spoken to Norton motorcycles today about my post and they were not concerned at all with my wording! so that just leaves the heavy handed moderators? i will now ask for my money back from the norton owners club and wish you well with your existing members.

Hopefully someone will have the foresight to start an owners club aimed at the new Norton bikes and leave you chaps to this old clubMathew Larrett

Welcome to the "961 waiting room" Mathew! when you've paid in full you'll be allowed a seat in here. Make yourself comfy you might be here some time! ;o)

Dear Mathew,

Sorry if you saw this as a cold welcome from me. It wasn't meant that way at all. It was meant as a critizism of the club's policy to censor member's opinions all of a sudden, including factual information on suppliers performance or lack of it, in one forum only, whilst other suppliers can be freely critizised on the other club forums.

Your contribution should have been erased was that club policy really instigated, which it obviously isn't. I just wanted to prove that point.

Every Norton fan is welcome and not only do I welcome you as a fellow Norton enthusiast but also as a fellow racer, though you are obviously far more competent on a racebike than I will ever be.

Hello JoeSorry about my response to your post, i was still a bit anoyed about the way my first post on this site was handled.I mostly use Ducatisti which is a very friendly club with every topic catered for, we often talk about the bikes, dealers and the Ducati factory and unless someone is rude or lies then most posts are left alone.Anyway i was searching the web for all things norton when your name popped up, i must say i was very interested to read about your past and the knoledge you have.So very nice to meet you and hopefully we may meet one day.All my bestMathew

Hi Matt

I've just joined and I've got a cafe racer 961. Done 4500 miles. Completely agree with your comments. I live in Cheltenham so close to you. Happy to meet up anytime and have a crack about the cafe racer. Feel free to call my mobile 07795 657399 or e mail me direct at richard@salixrw.com I'm a bit gutted you're 0nly 40 as I thought I was the youngest at 43! P.S Don't despair too much as there's plenty of old boys who are not rude and cantankerous out there!
