Hello Derek,

I like you paid the deposit for a double seat 961 in october 2010 waited 14 months and nothing, but was never going to pay the remainder till I had the bike. Decided to ask for a refund and bent a few ears and it worked got the full refund back, thanks to Marc/Paul.Problem with them at the moment is most bikes are for export as this is tied up with the loan they received so you might be a little longer waiting.I would still like to own one though but until they get proper sorted I will have to wait a little longer, until then there some bloke at Hinckley putting some rather tasty bikes together, wifey suggests we give him a call ??

Hi Derek,

I would just like to say I hope you get the bike soon as the biking weather will soon be on us, and I am sure it will be well worth the wait as they look absolutely stunning.

Hello Derek

I'm awaiting delivery soon, they should start the build this week ( I wonder).

I only payed the deposit so far and as I said on previous ocasion won't pay the full amount till I see the bike.

After waiting for 2year 7months it's about time they get me my bike.

It's a shame but inevitable I guess. First commitment goes to where the money came from? Over 2 1/2 years wait is unacceptable by any standards! I'm with Derek in cancelling an order and getting the deposit back. I would never be as patient asRichard - in fact I would be worrying at having such a long wait.

Hi,

I have just joined up as I'm also waiting for a 961 sport. I've been told it will be going into production next week. But I was also told that 2 weeks ago so I'm a little sceptical! My order was placed July 2011.

Hopefully they get on top of these production problems as it has the potential to be a great success

Hello Lionel,

There seems to be a bit of Deja Vu journalism in the motorcycle news this week on Norton Motorcycles at Donnington !!!

I called in the factory on wednesday on my way up north, they were busy putting bikes and engines together, so they must be going somewhere.

Hello Mark - have you got it yet ?

I ordered and paid in full November 2011 and have of course received the same responses and excuses as everyone else during the endlesschase up process, but the last I heard from sales manager end of April was yet another temporary production shutdown due to lack of bits from subsuppliers. He expected the get going again early May. Please try to make my day !

Just back from the IOM, they had 3 on their stand in the paddock, so I assume somebody somewhere must be getting one, I did buy a T shirt (expensive) in the vain hope it will help with the race effort. The bike looked scary in practice, handling much like I remember the Laverda Jota's did when they raced at the IOM in 1980! The rider was around 10mph slower on it than on his other bikes.

They did have one of the most impressive trucks in the paddock though! I got a good shot of the bike at Ballaugh which I'll send in to the mag!

Bonjour from Paris, France !

Just enrolled and paid my yearly fee. I'd like to add to this discussion by pasting in a recent e-mail that I sent to Norton (to info@, Kay Johnson - PA to Stuart Garner- & Stuart Garner himself), with no reply whatsoever :To whom it may concern...Dear Sir, Madam,Back in November 2011, I ordered through your french distributor, Paradise Moto, a 961 Commando CafÃ?-Racer gray colour. The bike is paid in full, but to this date, i.e. 7 months later, I still have no idea when it is likely to be delivered !To put it another way, Paradise Moto themselves seem to have no information regarding the delivery date of this bike and many others that they have on order. As I am slowly but surely losing patience and getting increasingly worried about never receiving this bike, I visited various internet forums, both from the UK and abroad, only to realise that there are dozens of poor customers in exactly the same situation as myself !I happen to own and run myself an import-distribution company in the pro-audio sector, with manufacturers from the UK and the US mainly, that I represent here in France on an exclusive basis. So I do understand about production issues, sub-contractors and parts delays, etc... etc...But when this happen, the manufacturer communicates with us, the distributor, and we then relay the information down the distribution channels all the way to the end-users.In the case of Norton, there is no communication whatsoever !You don't keep your distributors up-to-date, they can't keep their sub-dealers up-to-date and the end-user is left with disapointment that eventually turns into anger and often enough, from what I've read on forums, orders cancellation !!!Not only this shows a lack of respect for your partners and your clients, but it projects a very negative image on your company.I look forward to someone at Norton finding the time to reply to this e-mail.Sincerely.JB Lierre

Just spoke with a guy called Mark at the factory.

Although very vague on actual delivery dates, he mentionned that a couple of 'things" (?) should happen at the factory this month that would help manufacturing more bikes faster...

Fingers crossed.

Hi James,

Sorry for the very slow reply - for some reason I can never get this message board to work. Anyway, no, not received yet. After sending Mr Garner an unhappy letter I had a frank phone call with one of the sales chaps about how things were going, not too far away from the bikerglory article referred to on the other thread, but it seems they are now getting bikes out the door. Based on a conversation I had with Andy there on Thursday I would hope to have my bike later this month, all going to plan. I will of course update when it does arrive.

According to this report from the Norton Motors website, they have received certification such that they can now ship new bikes to the US. Sorta like the late 40s and early 50s when all the brit bikes were exported to the US to pay off the WWII war debt.

I am thinking that the UK will get a dribble of bikes and the rest will be exported.

There are no more war depts to pay, and if I had taken a deposit months ago I'd see to it I deliver rather than send that bike to some other customer over the pond to the US.

The forums have been full of stories that there were no deliveries because everything went to the US for many months.

as this thread is moving again (and I've rejoined the NOC) I think I should add that I received my 961 sport at the end of July. It's now back at the factory having it's 500 mile service and the long 'loud' cans fitted, it's hard to imagine a bike worth waiting 17 months for but this one definately was :))) I've given up on second guessing or reading between the lines at what is said by or about Mr Garner, all I know is that without him there would be no 961 Commando!

Fully agree with you Derek , i waited 37 months on mine but its worth it i think . Some people don't liked it from the start but that is their problem . I only hope they can work trough the backlog . Sorry Joe you're no longer the last one to produce a Norton roadbike .

That was never my ambition, my hope was this would get an investor out of the woodwork who would then take the Norton story further. Which happened eventually, though I had hoped for a more professional restart on a different scale.

Hello yes I do agree with this statement , as any one read Stomp Motorcycle web pages they make good reading but Not For Norton and its customers , !!! your AJD

Joe:

I did not mean that there are any war debts to be paid. I just meant that maybe all the new Nortons are being exported to generate cash to pay off their loans.

I went to the factory last week for a 2 year service to my 961 Sport.

they had loads of engine parts being assembled, they were making up frames (4 a day)

the new CNC machine was making more inhouse stuff and there was a line of new bikes waiting to go out, they also have a lot more staff working there, so lets hope they're now on track to meet peoples orders.

John, I had a similar experience last week too with my 961SE. I went to the factory for a 2 year service (for the bike, not me :). I had been to the factory before in June 2011 and there's noticeably a lot more activity now. There were bikes ready for the road, more being built and the warehouse looked pretty full to me too. The people there were very welcoming, helpful and open.

Simple business start-ups are difficult. Motor trade start-ups even more so. Anyone that has been involved with a start-up and not had problems somewhere along the line has either:

1. been very, very lucky or

2. never actually been involved in one.

We should support these guys. Their heart's in the right place and they make a fantastic product.
