Pushrod adjuster thread stripped

Forums

A sudden noise in the head of my Model 50 lead me to discover the adjuster locking nut was loose. I can't see if the thread of the nut or the adjustment bolt is stripped, but the nut can't be tightened anymore. It just rotates freely.

When turning out the bolt, it seems there's a good thread, but when turning the locking nut towards the pushrod, it tightens eventually. REALLY tightens. So the nut is definitely gone, but as it rotates freely when near the top of the adjuster bolt, I suspect the thread there isn't as healthy as it looks (in a dark shed with only a couple of windings visible).

I'm making this way too long...

I'll take the rocker box off and have a look. Hopefully the bolt (13801) is okay, as I assume it's hardened. If so, would a normal 5/16x26 nut do or does it need to be a special grade of metal? This question also stands if I need to replace the bolt, as these are only offered bare, without a locking nut.

Kind regards,

Tim
