Posting for Tony’ daughter.  Will provide specifics when thay are agreed.  I can convey any suggestions to Samantha.

“Sadly my beloved Dad passed away on Monday which is absolutely heartbreaking. We are all in shock but I’m trying to think about practicalities. In a few weeks will be his funeral, we think at Aston on Trent crematorium in Derbyshire. My Dad has always loved classic bikes, owns a few and has been an official member of the Norton owners club for years. He’s had bikes since he was 16, he’s lovingly restored many and they are one of his big loves. Strange question but on the day he’s cremated does anyone know how I’d arrange a gathering, drive past... not sure of the correct term.... but a group of people on their classic bikes to give him a bit of a send off... Hope that makes sense, thank you for reading and thank you for any help in advance x

Much missed….

As the road is busy it has been suggested that the bikes gather at the rail station car park.  The funeral is to leave at 13:45 and will approach the house from the station direction.

  We can then follow on.

Ive been a family friend of Tony and Dianne since my late teens and restored many of Tonys Nortons (about 6 as i remember) along with a rather troublesome Greeves 250T. We spent many a weekend trawling Autojumbles for spares or driving to Fairspares (Norvil) for parts and time spent with Bill Woods at Long Eaton Enamellers who did all the Stove enamelling on the bikes. Along with this, Tonys knowledge of Norton models and specs was second to none and his sourcing of parts pre internet was fantastic.

As Tony reduced his collection i still fettled and maintained his 99 and his first Norton the 650SS, I was so shocked and saddened when i heard of his passing. Tony made me what i am today in the world of classic bikes and my love of all things Norton, going to miss the trips to Long Eaton to pick up his bikes and then return them. He always gave me free reign to do whatever was needed when it came to his Nortons and this set me up as the person i am today and i too have a strong love for all things Norton.

Tony had many special things in his life as well as his bikes which included tennis coaching, bird watching, gardening and looking after his family of course.

Going to miss you Big man.

Your good friend Ian.

Gents, the day went well. Several bikes on display. The family were elated to see, not only Tony’s 99 taking to the road by Brendan Doherty, but the stunning looking bikes from Arthur and Ian Hind. Several others who I briefly caught up with, (Steve, message me, I missed you at the house) and the Funeral Director who led from the front on his vintage s***ki….

A fitting end to an all encompassing character.  The gathering went on to a respectable evening time where the stories of Tony’s life and interests were still rolling off the tongue..

Ay’up Tony….
