Hi Guys,
I have a 1928 Norton CS1, can someone enlighten me on what type of bearings Norton used for their drive side/timing side bearings? also what type did they use on the camshaft bearings top and bottom? Presently fitted are Skefko RL8 self aligning bearing on the mains, are these original fitment? I have done some research and the Skefko bearing seem to be a good make but made in China. Would a Timken bearing be better??
Scott..
Skefko may be made in China…

CS1 main bearings
Hi Scott,
When I stripped my 1928 CS-1 motor down, the bearings in the engine were:
Drive side main: LRJA1 roller. 2.25" x 1" x 0.625"
Timing side main: RLS 8 ball bearing. 2.25" x 1" x 0.625"

Hi Ian, Thank you for that,…
Hi Ian,
Thank you for that, I guess these were SKF bearings then?

Skefko may be made in China now but they are part of SKF (just another way of saying SKF) and had a plant in Luton from 1911. As part of SKF they will be made to SKF standards regardless of where they are made. So as long as CS1's had RL8 bearing then the ones you have are fine.
