Hi all,
On my new restoration (1955 ES2) I have the rocker box and head off for a clean and check.
On both rocker shafts it only has one shim washer next to the thrust washer. When I look at the parts manual (Plate C) it shows two shim washers either side of the thrust washer, but the text says 'Rocker shaft shim washer as necessary' with quantity 1.
So do I have a shim washer missing for each shaft - or is it acceptable just to have one shim washer next to the thrust washer?

According to E M Franks, shims are added as necessary to remove excessive end float. So you use as many as you need to use...to remove excessive end float...
