Ah, if an approximation is…
Ah, if an approximation is all that is needed ...... I'll go with your 80-90 lb, as it's iron barrel and head etc. Thank you.

Speed and How to obtain!
The book gives two weights for 500 cc Single engines as example for power to weight, between 70lbs and 85 lbs!
So the guest-imate seems pretty good!

ES2 Engine weight
Philip,
I have just weighed a 1954 ES2 engine using the bathroom scales and the estimates are very good as it was 81.4 lbs. This is a complete engine, with cast iron barrel and head, as returned to me by Mike Pemberton. Of course you'll have to add the weight of the packing materials.
Hope this helps.

Total bike weight is 374 lbs according to one site, I can pick my 99 engine up so I reckon that's about 65-75 lbs at a guess, but it has an alloy head! Can you lift it, stand on some scales and subtract your body weight? Naked of course, to get a better closer approximation! if your single is a cast iron barrel and head, bigger flywheels it is probably heavier than the 99 engine, so that maybe 80- 90 lb?
I could be, in my guesstimate totally out, mind you!
Hermes do an approximation with weights in the range of such and such and not specific figures.
