Small End Bush

Forums

Afternoon all.  The small end bush on my '47 M18 disintegrated last July.  I've taken the engine out, and removed the barrel.  Now need someone to ream in a new bush, ideally without me having to remove the con rod from the engine and send it away by itself.  Thoughts as to who would do this work please?  It's been with Dave Massam but he hasn't got to it and is unlikely to before he winds up in June.  I'd really like to be on the road in time for Summer.  Thank you. Phil

Any reasonable engine builder should be able to do it. Or you could buy an expanding reamer and do it yourself?

Have you considered AutoServices in Exeter? I assume as it was with Dave then you would be reasonably close. Ring them 01392 273429

I’ve got an adjustable reamer set and did mine, you are welcome to borrow it.

other place to try is Hamblins near Bridgewater

Thanks everyone.  I had simultaneous advice from Dan and a friend to try Hamlins in Bridgwater ... spoke to to them on Friday and they said no problem come over.  Went there today, and the chap said they don't normally do bike engines any more, only car engines.  Ha.  Anyway, they were very friendly and helpful so I've left it with them.    Will keep Autoservices in mind for future.

A bit reluctant to try reaming this myself as I have no confidence that I could get it anything like sufficiently parallel to the crank.   But thanks for the suggestion / offer.  Appreciated.
