Wideline tank

Forums

When the tank on the Wideline was moved forward, bringing the front of the tank either side of the steering head, what happened at the rear of the tank. Was a new andlonger tank fitted, was the seat lengthened, or was something else fitted there to fill the gap?

I had this problem on my 1957 Dommie 99 (wideline), when replacing a now-useless fibreglass Manx-style tank with the correct steel one. I find you have to move the seat forward, which meant carefully removingits baseplate from the covering, and fitting a steel strip with two bolts welded to it, through two holes drilled in the baseplatein the right position to locate with the seat mounting holes. I haven't got it on the road yet, and I am wondering how much I'll notice sitting almost 2 inches further forward! Might be an improvement. The original tool-tray which accepts the holding down bolt and tank-top strap is missing, so I have had to make an arrangement to take the bolt. Funny thing is that photos of other Dommies don't seem to have that long steel strap.
