Valve seals for 99?

Forums

Now that i have increased the supply of oil to the valves (which were running with little oil) , I find there is a bit too much getting down the guides. is there a seal which fits the std dommy guides?.

Hi Robert,

When I had this issue with my dommi, the only fix I could find was to install Commando guides with the corresponding seals.

The shape of the original guide tops isn't very good to keep a seal in place, even if you could get one on it.

George.

Thats what I thought.Hmmm, think I will have to take the return union out of the tank and ream out the brass plug that I earlier fitted to send more oil up the head . At the moment its to the size of the Jubilee one ,I'll try the next drill size. The extra oil is being sucked into the motor on the inlets and causing poor running when cold (and making the motor sound rich oddly) Its also running down the exhaust guides and drips from the exhaust. No smoke though!. For some strange reason when hot the motor will idle really slowly , never did that before. Oil turning the fuel into low octane??.

I think you had it right before, Robert. What I do is to put my finger on the return hole in the oil tank for a minute or two with the engine running. This forces oil up to the rockers.

Ideally I just do this after a machine has been laid up a while, allowing oil to drain down. You don't need a lot of oil up there. In the old days it was just a couple of shots with a grease gun to do the job!
