Valve guide oil feed pipes

Forums

My Pre-War ES2 has the small pipes going into the head to lube the valve guides as most of you would know already. My question is,does the pipe go into the hole in the guide itself or does it sit outside the hole relying on the oil to find its way into the hole by itself. The reason for the question is that the pipes on mine, after stripping it down, appear to be to short to fit into drilled valve guide hole.

Not sure about the ES2 but pre-war cammy engines have a similar valve guide lubrication arrangement; in those heads the small pipes do extend into the guides. The heat from the exhaust guide tends to carbonise the oil in the pipe so it will need to be cleaned out (or replaced) regularly. If your pipes have not been seated in the guides you will probably need to clean out the holes leading into the guides with an appropriate size drill (probably long series).

Hi, just finishing off my 34 ES2 restoration. Does anyone have pics of exactly where the valve guide oil pipes go?

Any info, drawings, instructions appreciated.

cheers

My oiling tubes fit into the head casting but not into the guide; this diameter is smaller than OD of pipe For Les: I would take a close look at the offside( Right in direction of travel) of the cylinder head casting where the guides would sit and poke around with a cocktail stick....
