TT carburettor pilot jet adjustment

Forums

The bike is far too noisy to play with at this time in the evening, but can anyone confirm the approximate starting position for the pilot screw for a TT carb?  All the Amal data says how to adjust it, but no hint of a default start position for the TT carb.  I need to find somewhere a bit distant from local housing to experiment!

Last time I ran it up in the shed, I had some spitting back (including unexpected flashes of flame!) on opening up.  Sounds too lean at the smallest throttle opening to me, although it's fine on the road.  I intend to add a gauze over the bell mouth, and open the pilot screw a bit before I start it again.

I would be tempted to put a colourtune plug in and run the bike on a stand at small throttle openings in gear with the back brake as a load .If it spits back and stops at least you won't be falling off!.
