Long shot - please does any one know where I can buy a latch for prewar tool box for my 1937 16H? It's just an old fashioned smallish suitcase / briefcase latch. The type with a side pull button holding a flip down latch. Possibly by Cheney locks whose successor company seems to sell a huge variety but wholesale only as far as I can tell. Can't find what I want anywhere on the web - nor in charity shops etc.

In the absence of a genuine latch, an eBay search for "old suitcase" throws up dozens of likely cheap sources that I would think could be easily adapted.

I have recently refurbished the lock on my own 1936 16H which looks very like some of the ones seen above.

Thanks Peter and Paul.I'll have to spend more time (even more) looking - and maybe find out where leather carvers do buy their accessories. Annoyingly, the old-fashioned compressed fibre type cases they appear on are becoming more fashionable! And even more annoying: we have one in the house that I could use but "It's Grandma's and has her old keep-sakes in it"!
