Navigator identify

Forums
HI All I have just become the proud owner of a Norton Navigator.  A bit of a barn find.  Unfortunately it did not come with any logbook paperwork so I am going through the process of trying to get it transferred to myself.  I am not sure what year it is. The frame number is 100570 which would make it a 61 but an old receipt from a previous owner refers to 62.  Could it be a 62? I want to make sure that I buy the correct spares/parts catalogue.  Would the carb be the same.  If so how do I identify the AMAL model so that I can buy a gasket kit. Thanks in advance for any answers.

I am sure others will correct me, but a frame number is indicative of year of manufacture. It may have sat in a showroom for several months, and so not actually registered until the following year. The club shop has manuals, this should be your first stop!. The Club's Lightweight guru is Andy Sochianik, contact details also on the website, he is a mine of information and very helpful

Norton 100570 was part of a large batch of Navigators built in the 3rd week of November 1961. Carbs

I think the year is not my biggest issue.  I have to try and get it registered in my name with the original number.  The seller that I bought it off lost the logbook. In addition he didn't register the change of ownership when he bought it in 1974.  It's been in storage since 1974. I applied to DVLA 5 weeks ago but haven't heard a thing. I'm now trying through the club. I would be interested to hear from anyone who has traveled this road.

the 1961/62 parts list is the one you want. From Engine No 106838, you would need the 1964 Parts List, as a lot of changes took place from that engine onwards. cheers

Engine number of mine is 100570 so it will be 61/62. Hope to hear from NOC records soon about getting it registered.

Hi Roger, Your bike is a new one on me - I run a Register of known bikes & it does not appear there.. Where & how did you find it - tell the story & show a photo of it in our Club Magazine - RoadHolder. Cheers, Andy S

Hi Roger. I have had very good dealings with a lady at DVLA on a couple of awkward issues. 5 weeks is not a long time in DVLA circles. If you wish I could give you her email. She is very prompt and responds within a day. She may be able to advise you as to which in-tray your paperwork is sitting. I'm always polite and ask their advise, it works. andy750@ntlworld.com

Andrew Thank you very much for the offer. I have now received the new period registration. It really is a shame that they cannot re-issue the original number. I have a cunning plan to apply for a personal number plate which might just happen to be the original number. I will have to see.
