Roadster fuel tanks

Forums

Nearing completion of rebuild of my 750 Roadster and now in need of a steel fuel tank (Anyone have one for sale?)

Has anyone tried an Indian made tank or had any feedback on the their quality and fitment

or, had any experience of UK made tanks?

There has been quite a lot of discussion about Indian tanks on Access Norton website. Some by actual buyers , and some people offering advice on something they haven't even seen.

Anyway. I bought one from partsparadise 51 , ebay number 290836075277 a couple of months ago, and I have to say I was skeptical to start with but when it arrived I was impressed.

Pressure tested it and no probs.

Filled it full of fuel and left over night. No leaks

Tried a genuine Ceandess cap and it fitted and closed properly.

The shape is very good, and it's made from what appears to be decent quality steel.

All threads correct.

It cost £125 and £50p&p

No import tax as the declared value was £15 ! and it arrived in 5 days from India .

So to say I'm pleased is an understatement.

Apparently the ones sold by the firm Enfield County are not good, but as I haven't seen one I wouldn't venture an opinion.

As genuine secondhand British tanks are stupid money it was great for me.

Hi Sam, well done on finding a good one, I didn't have the same luck. I think mine was from Royal Crusaders on ebay and it looked nothing like a Roadster tank when I got it. More square and longer on the sides, and made out of much thicker metal that was very rusty inside although covered in a thick grease.

Hi Les , I also bought mine from partsparadise 51 . The workmanship and steel used are excellent.

You cannot go wrong for the price, and it fits.

I also required a replacement fuel tank for my '71 Roadster as the FG original was delaminating and leaking fuel. Based on the comments of Sam Milner and Christopher Roberts together with the excellent feedback score on ebay I also ordered a steel tank from partsparadise 51 (ebay number 290836075277). The tank arrived after 5 days in a stout cardboard box and with multiple layers of bubble wrap and foam. I ordered the tank unpainted and it was coated liberally externally in protective oil in a thick polythene bag. I leak tested the tank for 72 hours with no sign of leakage

The tank is of very good quality and dimensionally exactly the same as my FG tank with correct cutouts in the underside and correct and crisp knee indentations. The overall shape is identical to my original. The bosses welded into the tank for the petrol taps and the 4 fixings are correctly spaced and nicely welded; all threads are correct and not sloppy. All seams are very well formed finished off. There was very slight surface rusting on the inside. I have treated the tank with a de-rusting solution followed by the ethanol resistant sealant "Sureseal" from Tank Care Products.

Based on my experience I definitely recommend this supplier and with the tank costing only £ 125 plus £ 50 PP ........

( I also bought a set of steel side panels from partsparadise which again are excellent quality).

Hope the above is helpful.
