Hello, Ineed a pair of rebound springs, the screw in clevis's, and a main spring for my 1946 girders. can anyone point me in the right direction? The nearest Ive found are a rebound spring kit from "racing Norton". A nice kit, but they are parallel springs etc as on inters.
There is the option to buy the bits from India on ebay, but there are so many conflicting stories about quality, fitment, and importation fees,I am dubious. So, if anyone has first hand experience of the Indian scource they could pass on, I'd be grateful.
Thanks, Martin

I would second that, Paul made a main spring for my '37 girders a few years ago. He used my original spring as a pattern but made it slightly longer to compensate for the inevitable sag over the years. Working with a local specialist means that the spring free length can be adjusted if the preload is not quite right the first time.

There's not a lot that a dodgy back street manufacturerer could make a mess of with the clevises or pins is there? They won't be exotic steel grade will they ? And you won 't come to any harm if they did fail. Although if they are made they might be metric size. Do you have dimensions? If not then let us know.
I just wish I knew how to remove and replace them safely to clear the pin greaseways properly.

Not so sure how I'd convey the size and guage of the clevis's to you David?
Re pin removal - a ratchet strap around the top yoke and bottom of fork where damper spindle passes, with just enough compression to relieve the tension on the rebound springs might help. Having said that, this is my first venture with girder forks, so it may well not work at all if I've misunderstood the trigonometry.

The damper springs are most relaxed at full rebound. Then mine are 6+1/8 ins long so I guess they are 6" relaxed.

Would it be worth trying one of the spring makers eg Paul Savage in Redditch?
No website but phone 01527 521666. He made some fork springs for me years ago and I was impressed by his work.
