I've now noticed that the p/chain is rubbing against the inner c/case. It has a standard drive sprocket and clutch sprocket. The inner c/case is correctly butted up to its supports.I can't see on the exploded drawing of the gearbox any shims/spacers for the main axle. Any ideas? Cheers George

It's a '55, Neil. I may have to resort to tapping the chain-case out to give some minimal clearance. At the moment it has rubbed the paint here and there off so it's definitely touching.

George, there are three offsets for engine sprockets, though you don't say what year your bike is?
The Late George Cohen defied anyone to put a year to the offset, so that might not be a help.
The only breakdown I ever had on my 16H was in 1998 when the primary chain broke at the split link. Carefully tapping the inner chain case out just a fraction, where I could see it was rubbing gave just enough clearance. Don't let the chain wear or break before the inner case wears back.
