Hi,
Also ensure that the operating lever is in line with the cable and not pulling off line. A mark on the inner case in line with the cable before assembly assists this alignment.

HT leads can go either way…
HT leads can go either way round...as long as they fire the plug just before TDC on compression (set timing accurately)....determinedbythe positionyou locked on the mag drive sprocket....However for the sake of neatness and getting the leads the same length...I like to have the rear one go to the left and the front to the right hand plug...so set the timing this way. However you might find the sweep from the mag is preferred the other way round!!!!, makes no difference at all.
To set the mag, you need to be able to see the brass HT conductor strip on the armature is facing thechosen HT hole before timing the mag...so remove the Bakelite HT carbon brush pickup holder to see.
As far as the heavy clutch it would initially seem you have not set the centre screw on the clutch dome correctly. As every manual says, get loads of slack on the clutch cable or remove it completely from the lever....loosen the clutch screw lock nut and screw in as far as it will go without forcing it, then back the screw out about half a turn lock the nut and then readjust the cable at the lever for about 1/8" slack...Ifclutch still heavy check the springs aren't screwed in too far and maybe check this first....Les

Another reason for a heavy clutch is using the wrong clutch lever. They should have a 7/8" fulcrum length - pivot screw to nipple centre. A 1" one does give a heavy clutch. The others are easy yo obtain.

Hello
The front plug lead fires the right hand cylinder.
Clutch: is the big ball bearing where it should be, behind the lever on the right hand side?
