On the exhaust side of my 1960 model 50 beneath the oil feed pipes is a threaded shaft which protrudes about 5/16" from the crankcase pointing towards the rear of the bike. I think it is roughly situated near the oil pump. I get a few drops of oil coming from this area. Should there be a nut on the end of this? I had an identical bike back in the 1960's and after years of modern bikes, decided to get another proper one !
I appreciate that older machines do drip oil, but I would like to get this one as oil tight as I can. Many thanks.

Hi Ian, many thanks. It is…
Hi Ian, many thanks. It is a grub screw and it is tight. I'll try the PTFE.
Kind Regards

It is a 5/16 cycle thread grub screw, and is about 1/2 inch long. The thread was damaged on mine and it leaked. I replaced it by cutting off the hex head of a bolt, and machining a slot in it.
Clearance between the frame and engine is an issue on a featherbed, so much better without a hex head on.
Screwed in with some Grey Loctite sealer, and it's as good as gold.
I can recommend the Loctite sealer - much more discreet than the red stuff, adheres well, remains flexible and has a pretty good temp rating.
Cheap enough too!http://bit.ly/1hE56dx

Hi
I think you're referring to what should be a grub screw which blanks off an oilway drilling. It doesn't usually protrude so either your's is too long or it's about to fall out! On my ES2, I apply a bit of PTFE tape to the screw before fitting to keep it oil tight.
