Hi,
I have a Dominator 7 with a early model clutch. Its a project that I have and I am in the phase of rebuilding the clutch.
I bought a set of new rubbers because I though they would be all the same size for these clutches. I was wrong and the new ones where small compared to the old ones.
Old height is roughly 28mm. The new ones where 24mm. I could not locate anywhere these bigger ones.
Would anyone have suggestions where to buy the bigger ones?

Inside the clutch centre there was total carnage and the rubbers where totaly stuck and clued to the walls and the spiders "arms" where broken of.
My first time dismantling and trying to install new ones and I assumed that I got the wrong ones beause the sizes seemed so different.

Hello , there are different spiders to suit different clutch centres. I presume your gearbox is the long Norton one that's usually called the 'Laydown box'. How many clutch plates are in it and do the driving plates and chain-wheel have the friction material in slots or are they plain ? regards, Howard

My old clutch centre is 1 1…
My old clutch centre is 1 1/8" deep (just over 28mm) to carry the rubbers. Spare rubbers are 1" (25mm) long. So rubbers have average of 1/16" at each end to allow them to expand into when they are squashed.
The last rubbers I bought were far too stiff to install. The rubber was faulty, because previous ones went in by following the manual. I was seriously concerned I might break the spider. The rubbers I had removed were swollen so I trimmed the ends off to 25mm long and refitted. I wonder how anyone managed to break your spider?

The ends of the rubbers don't have to fill the entire space. If rubber springs have no air gap to expand sideways into, they become effectively solid because rubber cannot be compressed. A rubber spring must be able to change shape. It doesn't become smaller.
So if there's a bit of space at each end, that's not a bad thing. When it's squeezed one way, it can expand the other way. Don't worry. The old ones sound like they have swollen. If they haven't broken up, you could trim them back a little.
