This does not add up at all !
My first reaction to this is that some "doctoring" of numbers might have been performed...
Are the numbers of correct font ?
Might I suggest at picture ?

Not sure if this helps but according to Bacon, engine no. 57587 indicates a 1955 build whilst frame no. 49903 indicates a 1953 build. The "7" indicates a Big 4. I'm simply quoting from the book but it might help. George

That doesnt sound like the frame number, the frame number usually has a letter first
and is on the left hand side of the front frame down tube about a third of the way down on that thick collar.
Regarding the comment on the big 4 engine in a swinging arm chassis,I have one the same the frame is 1955 but the engine number has been rubbed off for some reason over the years so am not sure whether is original.Im going to get some information from the norton records office with the frame number to see what the bike was registered as,but I
have noticed a couple of pictures of big 4s with swinging arm frames on google images.
