Model 50 Tank Renovation - Internal paint choice

Forums

On advice from a friend who has restored a number of bikes I have used an epoxy paint called Klass Kote to proof the inside of my petrol tank. This is a paint used by aircraft modellers and is said to be impervious to all solvents ! Let's hope this includes Ethanol.

I used the primer plus a catalyst i.e two seperate tins (1/2 pint each) that need to be mixed together. The one and only UK stockist can be found on the internet using Google. It is not cheap - the two tins cost me £55 !

I just mixed the two tins and poured the paint into the tank from which all rust and previous liners had been removed using acid and nuts and bolts. I then shook it about in the hope of covering the whole internal surface. Time will tell whether or not this works.

Just passing this on in case anyone has tried it and has comments to make, or maybe would like to try it.

Sending again as I cannot understand why no one has any views on this !!!

My view is that as we have no idea what composition of fuel may be used in the future, no-one can say with certainty whether any coating will survive.

As far as I know, petrol tanks were never painted internally from new.
