Model 50 / ES2 tappet adjustment cover

Forums

Having returned to Norton ownership with the acquisition of a featherbed Model 50 I find it dispalysa film of oil around the barrel and upper crankcase that would seems to be coming from a cracked and ill-fitting tappet adjustment cover.I understand this is a common age related failuredue toover tightening of the two sleeve nuts as shown below:

Any suggestions appreciated on a possible source of a replacement before I try welding and refacing the present one or attempt shaping a replacement from Dural block.

Well, I know what I would do (and it would cost pence, not pounds). Make sure the cover is completely degreased (boil in soapy water, then rinse). Gently heat in oven (while "she who must be obeyed" has gone shopping!). Fill cracks with epoxy resin, and allow to cool slowly. Face up when cold. Cut out a gasket, from thin card, smear with silicon gasket goo, GENTLY tighten cover, and leave for 24 hours, or more, to cure before starting the engine. John.

Thanks John, I'll give that a try.
