Manx mystery

Forums

Hello all, a friend has just bought a SOHC Manx and above the bore and stroke, on the crankcase, there's 3 letters, JWB. Maybe someone knows what does it mean? A tuner or a racer? Many thanks for your help, regards, BenoÃ?t

No idea Ben, but there seems treda lot of other stampings in the region can you pan out a bit to get a better view? Do you know any recent history of the machine; localle, status (road /off road/ race prepared). Any tell tale equipment, parts, labels etc? If you can narrow down the field if use you might be able to strike lucky.

bonne chance!

Cheers

Jon

Hi Benoit,

The letters JWB are most probably the initials of J.W.Beevers, more commonly known as "Bill Beevers". Bill raced at the Isle of Man T.T. races every year from 1935 to 1960 with the exception of the WW2 years. He also raced in Europe both pre and post war in what was known as the "Continental Circus" as well as major events in the U.K. Although Bill worked on the railway in a not particularly well paid job he managed to buy a new Manx most years of his long racing career. It might be a good idea for your friend to get the information from the NOC records officer if he has an originalframe or engine number.

Regards, Richard.
