Wet sumping? I believe that if the oil drains into the crankcase it can cause an hydraulic lock. Worth checking the oil level to see if it is still in the oil tank. If it's low, drain the sump and see if that helps.

Best of luck!

Does the kickstart operate with the clutch in? If so, then gearbox side should be ok. If not, then it is a gearbox issue.

If it is the engine, take the plugs out. Does it now turn over? If yes, then it could have had a cylinder with fuel in which won't compress - non sealing float(s), fuel tap not shut?

If no, then it isn't hydraulic locking, but something mechanical or incorrectly set with the engine.

Doing the above should narrow the problem area down a lot for you.

George.

A  very slack primary chain can droop on the top run while being kickstarted and snag the alternator stator housing . Kickstart Pawl has a very hard life on the 750.

It kicks over with clutch in and with belt drive off so only gearbox turning. engine turns fine with plugs out. thanks bryan.

the engine and gearbox turn freely with the belt off and lock up with the belt fitted, must be something to do with the belt. I don't have any experience of belt drives, I'm afraid, so can't help any further. Hope you get it sorted soon.
