Fuel tank mounts

Forums

I am about to get my 850 Mk1 Roadster tank lined and noticed the mounts are not as the parts book, instead of separate studs and multiple rubber washers they look like part 060622 which is the same mount used in the head steady and exhaust hangers.

Some of the rubbers are perished so it makes sense to change them, and I can go back to the original setup or stick with new 060622. The 060622 would seem a good option as it isolates the tank, where as the solid stud even loaded with washers would still probably transfer some vibes into the tank. Are there any views on this?

and second question , when I try to remove the existing rubber mounts and they inevitably disintegrate are there any tips on how to get the remaining part out ?

thanks Gerald

Provided the weight of the tank is taken on the rubber pads along the spine and not purely on the front tank mounts it probably won't make much difference which you use. With your Roadster tank it's not too much of an issue but an interstate tank with full fuel and a tank bag will probably be too much to rest on the two frame "wings" without them bending down. Later coil mounting plates effectively box in the two wings and give them more support. The front mounts are there to stop the tank coming off, not take the weight of it.
