ES2 tank top transfer placement

Forums

I've refinished my tank in silver and applied red & black lines - looking quite nice....

But I'm not sure exactly where the tank-top transfer goes. Is it forward of the filler or to the rear?

A photo of your P&J would be helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Many thanks Ian that looks excellent and is where I'll put mine. If nothing else will give the rivet counters something to point out to me.....

They don't have to search too hard on my bike! Alloy rims, 8" BSA front brake, Inter head, TT carb, Givi luggage..... I know it's not correct but I like it that way. All the original parts are still there so if someone wants to put it back when I've stopped enjoying it that's OK by me. In the meantime the rivet counters enjoy pointing out the faults, gives the rest of us a giggle so everyone is happy!

Regarding Rivet Counters the simple response to their comments is " It is not a problem I am sure yours will be right when you do it"

Had a couple of them comment on a bike I won Best in Show with.

My pre war tank with the logo in front of the filler cap. Done by Lewis Templeton.

Thanks Colin.

That's more or less where mine's ended up after consulting my wife (who is far more aesthetically aware than I am)....

The photo makes it look off centre but it isn't.....

Looks good Ian. Just for interest what year of tank is that? To my knowledge 1950 tanks have single hole hole knee grips with butterfly filler and by 1956 twin hole grips with bayonet filler. Yours seems to have the twin hole grips with butterfly so I'm guessing somewhere between those 2 dates? Oops, I'm counting rivets!

It's a 1952 bike and as far as I know the original tank according to catalogue pics. Of course it should be chromed but was very dented and pitted (see pic below) plus I can't afford it!

The bike is in fact very original (apart from some creative mods by the last owner) so apart from the tank which I really didn't like as bought I plan to get it up and running then address bits and bobs as time goes on rather than a full-on restoration.
