ES2 side stand query

Forums
Am I missing something here? A side stand on e-bay is currently running at over £100 with another one destined to catch it up yet Norvil do a new one for under £50 (plus postage and VAT) which is pounds cheaper. Any views? George

Hi George, I bought the one from the NOC which the cast fitting that bolts to the frame just forward of the engine. Looks accurate to me and is a brand new item that I gather the NOC had replicated ?

you will find it in the NOCShop "cycle parts" on page 7

103 pounds...not cheap but I'm seeing eBay prices that high for badly rusted originals.

I will be getting a small tang welded on to mine so I can catch it with the tip of my boot as when folded it is tough to get at.

Will post a photo if I'm pleased with the results and feel it warrants passing on to others

Well spotted,Grant. It would never have occurred to me to look under "cycle parts" for a stand! Barry - good guess! It's currently up to £188 with a couple of hours to go. Can't put my finger on why the one from Norvil is under £50. Perhaps I'll find out when it arrives! George

£340 winning bid. ARE THEY MAD? How can that possibly be when it can be bought from at least three sources for a fraction of that cost? I just don't get it.

£340 !?!? The NOC one looks the same or certainly "close enough" for me. Works great and thankfully it is the correct length for the ES2 plunger frame bike

I had a side stand on my '62 R27 that rattled and never used...unique to the R27. After sitting on a shelf for a couple of years, I stuck it on eBay hoping for $50 bucks and it was bid up to over $300...go figure eh.

Slight twist on my original post but apparently (so I'm told by Norvil) the pre-featherbed ES2 side stand is held by a pin with two circlips rather than (as mine) a bolt with a threaded hole in one of the lugs on the stand. I guess as they are cast iron there is the possibility of trying to tighten it up too much and cracking one of the lugs off. Strange as my 1955 parts book shows a bolt with a retaining nut!
