Dominator clutch adjustment

Forums

Hi

I'm having problems setting up the clutch I originally set it up as the Haynes manual but found the action very heavy I had managed to get chain case sealed so was loathed to have to start again but clutch

that heavy I've had to,,problem is if I loosen springs I only have to touch lever when kicking over and clutch clears don't want to build it up to find clutch slipping when running can anyone tell me how tight springs should be.

Maybe someone can suggest a torque. But for what it's worth...I tighten the nuts on mine until the ends of the nuts are flush with the ends of the studs. And remember to adjust the centre pressure plate nut so there is the 1/8" clearance before the actuating lever picks up load. It should not clear as soon as you touch the handlebar lever because there should be that bit of clearance. You dont give the year of the bike. The earlier clutch with the mushroom lifter in the middle was different and not covered by Mr Haynes.David. ..

Bikes with the AMC box must have a lever with the right distance between cable nipple center and pivot center anything over 7/8th of an inch will cause heavy action. I don't know about earlier boxes.

Bike has aftermarket Ali levers fitted inch plus pivots found an old lever with 7/8 pivot what a difference that made two new levers now on order

thanks for advice

Glad to be of help, nice simple fixes are rare, Funnily the correct clutch lever was usually paired with brake lever that measured over an inch !, seems like Norton were frightened we might lock the front wheel , some hope!, a 7/8th brake lever will improve the brake too. As will an extended arm on the hub. Bars with about 2" rise will give nice cable runs ,much better than straight bars.
