Could someone measure their saddle please?

Forums

My recently purchased 1952 ES2 has a saddle which had been modified in a number of creative ways, but the basic frame looks fine. However, I'm not sure whether it is the correct one from the bike. It measures around 14" at its widest point, and 12" or so long (from the nose to the back).

When I look at saddle covers for sale, these sizes are described as "for lightweights", eg Bantams and the like. The larger sizes offered would be much too big for my frame. I'd prefer to keep the frame I have rather than ditch it for a complete new saddle, but not if it will look ridiculously small.

It would be nice to know from other owners what they have fitted.

(edited as had transposed the measurements).

Hi Ian

Those dimensions are about the same as my '51 ES2. My frame is nearer 15 wide but the same length. Only measured roughly over the cover. If you need more acurate dimensions let me know but it does sound like yours is about right.

I had mine recovered by Leightons. Superb job, looks better than the off the shelf covers you can buy and my ES2 is the most comfortable bike I ride.

Hello Ian,

The measurements of my 50 ES2 are 13" long by 16" wide.

Many thanks Bill & Andy.

Possibly two different sizes were fitted. I'll probably stick with the one I have as I prefer to use original parts where possible (although who knows what is original after 65 years!

I've used Leightons before - last time was for a Commando seat - and they do an excellent job, so I may contact them.

Hi Ian

I suspect Bill has measured over the top of his cover, I went off the frame itself. Bill's dimensions are about the same as I get over the top.

It sounds like yours is very close if not correct, so Leightons would be the way to go imo.

Andy
