I'm attempting to return my 71 750 Commando back to it's origonal state (not concours). It was apparently purple, (Viking purple? anybody have details of the exact paint colour and where to get it?). Also, if anyone can send me a pic of an origonal purple Commando, either from a sales brochure or any other source, I would be very grateful.
Thanks, Colin

I have seen Commandos ina solid purple colour, but I do not have it listed. I would be interested to hear if anyone thinks there was one.
My notes indicate Fireflake Purple which was a 1970 year colour sowould have appeared on some machines first registered in 1971. The best exampleI know is Tony Duffett's immaculate restoration in Canada and I have sent you a high resolution image of that bike. The fireflakes are notoriously complicated and Tony himself has achieved two different effects on two machines, the main factor being the thickness of the flake layer and the degree to which the flakes can 'stand up' 3-dimensionally.
You will find another example of a purple fireflake on Mick Hemmings' racing Commando.
The Norton catalogues for the year tell you, rather unhelpfully, that there is a wide range of colours available and that you should consult your dealer!
RS Bike Paint tell us that they have all the Norton colours. Find their details in the Suppliers & Services pages of this site or via their advertisment in Roadholder.
