Clutch pressure plate - the right one

Forums

I have a 1957 99 and 3 pressure plates, all with different depths can somebody tell me which is the correct part number and eventually the depth. This can also obviouslychange the way the springs are tightened, flush or not!!

On a related topic the centre adjustment nut seems to touch the interior of the tin chain case when pulled as there are marks inside, again there are two lengths of adjuster so which goes with which plate (obvious answer is long with shallow and short with deep but ????

Thanks for any reply

Do you not have a parts book for your 1957 99, as this will give you all the part numbers that you would require? Norvil also do asales catalougethat shows all the different clutch plates. You could also have the wrong alloy pressure plare, as this would move the adjuster and nut further out and can touch the out side of the chain case cover.

No, I have no parts book, have been looking for one for sometime (live in France). Thanks for the Norvil tip I'll look at that

Norvil should have a parts book, or try Mick Hemmings and RGM Motors as they also should have a parts book. The club may also have a parts book that they can copy for you. There is also a stall at Kempton Park auto jumble they sells just about every manual and parts book for a huge variety of bikes. I think he calls himself the Manual Man, and he advertizes in the classic press, so you should be able to find a parts book for your 1957 Dominator.

Thanks for the suggestions, I should perhaps have said clutch plate cover the piece with three holes for the spring cups, I've looked once again at one of my spare ones and there is no reference stamped on it.

Thanks again

I have never seen a part number stamped on a pressure plate. Clutch pushrods can be of differing lengths so that could account for the witness marks on your chaincase. Really, you are just going to have to assemble the clutch and try it out. Of course, new clutches are available at an 'interesting' price if you want to go down that route...

The deluxe way to get a parts book is to buy Kim the CD Man's Norton CD. This has manuals and parts books for a large number of different models and years in pdf format, so you can read them on your computer or print them out. You can email Kim at kimthecdman@techinfo.com.au
