Greetings and Happy New Year,
I have two Ceandess fuel caps both âas purchasedâ with Slimline bikes a 1961 Model 50 and a 1964 650SS. One from the Model 50 is serviceable and vented, other is in good shape but missing the cork seal and has no vents. Have now received replacement cork seals from the NOC spares scheme and just need some advice. May I just fit the new cork seas âas suppliedâ or is there any âlubricantâ recommended? (Also got one for the oil tank too, any difference?)
Now can I âventâ the non-vented cap successfully and can someone please explain why the vented cap also has a hole in the side âbayonet?â

Thanks for the offer but postage may be an issue as I am based in Adelaide, South Australia.
Any ideas regarding the hole by the bayonet and anyrecommendedlubricants or just insert the new gasket dry??

I have just looked at a few of mine, including a couple which are genuine Ceandess's, and none have a hole by the bayonet.
I have only ever fitted new corks dry, but others may come up with other ideas.
I guess you should be able to drill a vent hole in the unvented one, in the top, and the inner section of the cap. Seems a shame, though, as I imagine un-vented ones are rarer. My Triumph T110 has a cap on the oil tank; which should be unvented; which was originally a vented one, having had the hole welded up, then re-chromed. It does just show, though, hence why I would have been happy to swap yours for a spare vented one I have.

G'day Steve, that hole in the side of the cap may have been drilled by a chrome platersshop to hang it inthe solution for plating.
If the cork gasket feels a bit stiff, give it a soak in hot water to make it a bit more plyable.
I am looking for an unvented oil tankcap for my Triumph!

OK thanks for all your replies, I will leave the un-vented cap 'as is' and seek a replacement vented one as there is no rush. Paul if you can come up with a serviceable vented one, we can make an exchange? Your explanation re-electro platers & holes may be indeed the answer!
