Carburetor question

Forums

I am just now getting my 1961 Model 50 back on the road after having been run over on the motorwayby a truck 3 years ago.

In setting up the carburetor (376-1") the book says to put the needle clip in position 2 but is does not state if it is 2 down from the top or 2 up from the bottom.

Which is correct? There are 4 grooves in the needle.

Should I just set it 2 grooves up from the bottomto start it out rich in order to be safe?

Thanks

Mike

Hello Mike,

Postion 1 has the clip in the top groove (weakest).

If all settings are correct and you use position 2, see if closing the choke slightly, with the engine fullywarmed improves the running at all. If it does, try postion 3.

With the currentbrew available as fuel being so different from what we (well, my dad anyway) used 50 years ago, it wouldn't hurt to start with the clip in position 3 and see how it runs. Especially if your engine is being run in.

Paul
