Alton Electric Start with Norvil Belt Drive

Forums

I have purchased an Alton Starter kit and my bike is fitted with a Norvil Belt drive. Has anyone fitted a starter with the Norvil belt? If so, what sort of spacer arrangement did you use? The Alton instructions suggest machining the inside of the front belt sprocket to enable the use of their normal spacer. Just wondering if there is an alternative.

I believe Alton has or at least did have (back in 2013 when i got mine) the sizes for the Norvil belt drive (Norvil being an Alton dealer) and so could supply the required spacer. It may be worth checking with Alton or Norvil but original manufacturers tolerances of the parts an taper fits in the primary means careful trial assembly and measurement is probably the best answer.

Thanks for the reply but have already been in touch with Alton and their idea is to machine the front sprocket so that their original spacer can be used. It's my VMCC section AGM tomorrow evening so I'll be looking for someone with a lathe I can use to do it.
