slipping clutch and no way of getting slack at clutch lever. help please!

it's a lay down gearbox and the adjuster on the gearbox is screwed right in

too many clutch plates?

Referring to your second picture. The clutch lever is clamped to the worm shaft (2) by the nut (1). The way to adjust it is to undo nut (1) so the clutch arm is free and use a large screwdriver in the slot of the worm shaft (2) to turn it and get some play in the clutch pushrod. Then clamp the arm at about 45 degrees down from the horizontal. You should then have a working clutch.

sorry about that John i did the photo then i had to phone and growl at my insurance company .its adjusted as Ian describes

When I had this problem, John, it was the clutch retaining nut working loose and simply adjusting the clutch arm is merely "chasing" the clutch. Try checking that the nut is really tight. George
