Advise on Early 650 and 750 atlas large end shells

Forums

Hello all To my recentexperience Norton 650 and 750 atlas has the Three start oil pump fitted so this means the crankshaft will have large end shells with NO OIL HOLES IN THEM and any aftermarket large end shells will have Oil hole in them So so how these need blanking off or fit the six start oil pump and plane rocker spindles , Now I foundmy 650s large end journals with 0,005 thou out only on the timing side but on one-half of the radius of its journal. This I never seen before on any engines crankshaft this is a weirdone but the drive-side was well with-in tolerance's and OK so I have had the Crankshaft reground to minus 10 thou, and I found that the Engine had the Stronger Commando type rods fitted by some previousowner, IF only he had fitted the right end shells The ones I removed had end shells with a 1/8th Oil Hole in them which lead to low oil pressure and premature wear on the large end journals, So owners Beware, of this , Now the Engine is back together and standing on my desk next to my computer looking at me waiting to be put back in its frame, but its frame is having its Beauty treatment and a new coat of polychromatic blue paint but in this weather I can only do a bit at a time. but I get there in time, yours anna J

Hi Anna. I have found that aftermarket shells come with one drilled shell and one without. If your engine requires no oil hole, put the shell with no hole in the rod and the one with the hole in the cap. this way the hole is blocked. It works for me.
