600 sleeves

Forums

Hi

can you replace barrel sleeves that are damaged, my 600 threw a rod and damage the barrel casting and sleeve , ive been told buy a local engineering firm that the barrel is scrap as its already been sleeved, want to know if I can replace the sleeves ?

thanks

Dear Carl,

Sleeves can be removed, but I suspect the issue is the likelyhood of cracks in the casting, no point replacing sleeve if pressing the next one in enlarges a crack, no-one could guarantee that it would not cause future engine failure, particularly if lower parts of barrel are not there to support sleeve. Might be better to find a worn set of barrels and have them sleeved.

If you have deep pockets, Norvil used to have reconditioned ones for many models.
