3 questions on dolls head. Help please.

Forums

Hello all. Just 3 questions that I need help with please. First, the push rod in the dolls head on my 1935 Es2 is 8 inches long. The one that is for sale in the N O C shop are apparently 7 and 1/4 for the dolls head. Is this correct as mine was working fine, until I had to strip the clutch and box, so should i change to the 7 1/4 or keep with I've got. Secondly, does the push rod and mushroom have a ball bearing between them. Mine didn't and it doesn't appear on the parts book or Manuel . The rod and mushroom have a definite recess that looks like it would fit a very small bearing. Or maybe if I have wrong pushrod as question 1, which is why I have the recess. Last question.Should the ratchet lever (on the back of the gear change part of the earbox which connects to the control rod) bolt holding it on be fully tight as mine was quite loose and was wondering if not loose would it make gear change hard or not possible. Many thanks again.

Hi Nicholas

I'm not sure how long the pushrod should be, I made one from a piece of silver steel and hardened the ends but never actually measured the length.

I don't know whether they had a ball in there originally or not, but mine all have... It cant do any harm.

Yes, if it's the bolt I think you are describing it should be done up tight... Mine used to come loose a lot and it was a regular job to tighten it back up. It's now lock wired in place. I can't think of any bolts or nuts on the gearbox that shouldn't be done up tight.
