Hello all and seasons greetings.
Back to my '54 ES2 after some time away from it. I'm once again struggling with my seat and mudguard fitment being short of parts and knowledge. Does anyone have a photo of the front seat bracket seemingly common to the 53/54 Es2s with part no H2/1054?
Is it the same as the 55 ES2 seat bracket, as I have borrowed one of those from a friend and can use it as a pattern. That's if it is correct even for a 55 as it looks a bit cobbled together in places. The '55 seats are quite different however. It seems to work OK except it seems to be only supported on the front bolt so nothing is stopping it from pivoting downwards under load on my frame at least, unless a pin goes through the rearmost hole and rests on the top frame tube..
Thanks again
Chris

Hi Chris,
It attaches in the same way that your borrowed bracket does. What you might need to do is make one from scratch to suit the seat you decide to use.
Unfortunately I cannot get at my 55 ES2 to get a pic of the seat bracket.
Perhaps it might be worth contacting one of the companies that make replica seats and see if they can supply a bracket or pictures of one?

Chris,
I hope I've attached two photos for a 1955 ES2 front seat bracket. The long side pieces fit to the frame as shown in your photo and the support for the seat is provided by at the back of the bracket where a projects downwards, about 1/4", and rests on top of the frame lug where the three tubes join together.
I've changed my front seat bracket so that it is fixed the the sidecar mounting hole which is directly below the rider's bottom. This gives better support for the rider's weight, allows the seat to be taken off without removing the petrol tank and gives more room for the wiring loom.
I have other photos of the rear seat mounting bracket but the file size is too large to post on this forum, so if you want these I'm happy to sent them onto you.

Thanks for the info provided. Always plenty of help available here.
I've managed to track down a fairly unmolested and unrestored 53 ES2 locally (Newcastle Australia) and its been very interesting. Its showed me the seat bracket arrangement (which I will have to make to fit in any case) and plenty of other stuff but has also brought more questions. My seat pan is shorter in front of the front mount and doesn't taper to a point as much as the '53. I thought my pan may have been shortened but it matches a photograph sent by Leightons of their repro pan. I've added my pan and the Leighton version in pics.
It will be a case of restoring the seat with my Leighton foam and cover, then manufacturing the bracket to suit the alignment.
Thanks
Chris

Hello All.
Looking at the bracket in the photo, I have a similar item that was in with boxes of parts for a 1948ES2. The bracket appears to be well made and original but does not belong to the ES2. I have looked at various parts books but cannot find it. Could some please let me know what model, year it does belong to? Assuming it is from a Norton.
Photos attached
Thanks
Peter

Hi Chris,
That borrowed bracket is 100% home made, 55 seats were two bolt mounting at the front and the genuine bracket looks nothing like that one and maybe half the weight.
*IF* you use a correct 55 seat bracket it probably won't fit a 53/54 seat because the 55 is unique to 55. They used a seat similar to that of a BSA only shortened at the front.
53/54 models used a flat bottom seat and so did the 56-59's going by pictures I have seen so maybe that bracket might fit if you can find one.
